Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Bread

Look at all those bits of sausage, yumminess in every bite! Cheesiness in every bite. Slather on some butter and dig in!

Rhodes Sausage Egg and Cheese Bread

I love when I create recipes that my family goes wild for. This Sausage, Egg and Cheese bread was a huge hit with my family. My daughters and I  have made it several times since I first tried it and every time they tell me how good it is. I had to share it with you. Not only is this bread perfect for breakfast, we have had it as sandwich bread, with Italian food, for snacks, for breakfast as toast, and even Egg in the Hole toast where you remove a section from the middle of the bread and toast the bread in the pan while cooking an egg in the hole you put in the bread. Slightly cheesy with a great sausage flavor, I used a mixture of spicy and sweet Italian sausage and this bread doesn't give you a punch from the heat at all. I also love to make this style of easy chopped bread with my kids! They love to get a bit messy. You simply place the ingredients in a pile and chop with a knife until it's well mixed. Then it's just a matter of proofing the bread and baking it it off. You could even make this bread ahead of time and freeze it in loaf pans, then pop it out into a freezer ziploc baggie for another time. Just thaw, proof and bake!

First, thaw out two loaves of Rhodes Bake N Serv White Bread.

I use a large loaf pan, but feel free to use two smaller loaf pans ( or even muffin tins) and make sure you spray with cooking spray very well.

Can you believe that this recipe is only 4 ingredients. Add the bread, you will need 4 eggs, 1.5 cups of shredded cheese ( I used a Monterrey Jack and Parmesan mixture) and 4 links of  cooked, cooled and chopped sausage ( I used a  blend of both sweet and hot Italian).

I know it might seem scary, but my kids have learned how to make this bread with my big knife. As long as their fingers never go below the handle this is the rule to keeping their hands safe. I have them place the palm of their hand on top of the blade to control the chopping, always keeping finger completely spread apart.
I also am showing my older teens/tweens so decide if your kids are old enough to handle this part.

First, begin by slicing the bread up a bit.

Once the bread is cut into pieces, we arrange them so there is an opening in the middle of the bread.
Here we begin adding the ingredients. A handful or two of sausage, a couple eggs and most of the cheese.

Then using straight up and down motions, chop the ingredients into smaller pieces.

Occasionally we also flip things around and re-pile the dough to make sure that everything is getting mixed.

Add the rest of the ingredients as everything begins to be mixed in more and more.

Keep out a few pinches of cheese to top the bread with when done.

That's about right. It looks messy, but will be great in the bread.

The more you chop the ingredients, the better integrated they will be in the bread.

Sprinkle the remaining cheese on the bread.

After loading all the bread into your loaf pan, allow it to proof or rise, until it is just over the top of the baking pan.

Bake your loaf at 350 degrees for 22-25 minutes. Then raise the temperature to 400 degrees and brown the bread for another 8-10 minutes.

Keep an eye on your bread so it doesn't burn, but does get a beautiful golden brown. Remove from oven, allow to cool in pan 10 minutes, then cool on baking rack 30 minutes.

Slice with a serrated knife to get the best, most even cuts.

This looks like a lot of fun and can hardly wait to make! I do have a question. After baking is it okay to store at room temperature or should I store in refrigerator?

Thank you for such a yummy and fun food project!!
